Abstract

The issues represented in the article are urgent because of the discussion of different aspects concerning a family and upbringing of children in pedagogics, especially it refers to preschool children. Despite the variety of investigating problems the historical aspect in the pedagogical heritage remains insufficiently explored. Many valuable findings of outstanding scholars of the recent past are unfairly forgotten. Accessing to them for an objective assessment in respect to contemporaneity will enrich the theory and practice of children’s education and upbringing with useful tips nowadays. Scientific novelty lies in the historical and pedagogical assessment of outstanding scholars’ achievements is conceptually given, valuable pedagogical heritage concerning family-related and children’s upbringing issues of prominent scholars and public figures such as M.F. Quintilian, J. A. Comenius, John Locke, J. H. Pestalozzi  and others are studied. Their important remarks, books, recommendations, experimental researches and experience have theoretical and practical significance for modern parents and teachers in children’s education and upbringing.
