Abstract
The paper says about the possibility of the effective use of printed illustrated book as a resource for the professional development of a future art specialist. The author considers some ways of studying books in the process of teaching “History of Art” discipline at the higher school. A book is a complex art form developed through the centuries. A future teacher-artist should understand its organization and spatial structure and view it as a synthesis of various art forms. The paper presents some ways of using books as a resource of genuine work of graphic art and focuses on understanding the design of children's book by future teachers. The author believes that a teacher-artist should know the best artist’s books in his/her region. The paper notes the necessity of viewing in-folio facsimile editions in the class, which can help students in their aesthetic understanding of classical fine print techniques. Illustrated books are “the witnesses” of the brightest events in the history of culture; they can be used effectively in the educational process and can help future teachers-artists in learning the history of arts.
